On September 23–24, 2026, the CustomAI consortium reunited in Haslev, Denmark, for its second in-person General Assembly. Hosted by coordinating partner Legind Technologies A/S (LTA), the two-day meeting brought together project partners alongside members of the External Advisory Board (EAB) to review technical progress, align work package strategies, and fine-tune plans for upcoming pilot demonstrations.
Day 1: Deepening Use Cases and Pilot Preparations
The opening day centered on the operational core of the project: CustomAI’s three primary use case scenarios—cultural goods, postal parcels, and seaport container inspection (covering Valencia, Constanța, and Aarhus).
For each use case, consortium members reviewed:
- End-User Requirements & Scenarios: Aligning operational requirements with frontline customs needs.
- User Interface & Pilot Design: Refining the UI layouts and structural setups for upcoming technology demonstrations.
- Test Planning & Setup: Structuring pre-testing procedures and environment setups across designated laboratory and site locations, including Valencia, Copenhagen, and CEA labs.
- Exploitation: Initiating discussions on sustainability and market translation of project outcomes.
The day concluded with a networking dinner, offering partners the opportunity to connect informally and reinforce team cohesion.
Day 2: Advanced Technologies, Software Architecture, and Roadmap Ahead
Day 2 shifted focus to technical components, software integration, and forward-looking strategies for months 12–18. Key sessions covered:
- Sensor & Scanning Technologies: Reviewing progress on non-intrusive vapor detection technologies and image databases for AI-based camera and X-ray threat detection.
- Software Components & Architecture: Examining data interoperability, knowledge repository frameworks, AI-enhanced blockchain solutions for cargo tracking, and the specification and integration of the overarching toolkit framework.
- Virtual Customs Control Office (VCCO): Assessing progress on the VCCO architecture, AI-supported risk-based predictive analytics, and decision support tools.
- Work Package Roadmaps (M12–M18): Setting actionable timelines and targets across requirements, toolkit design, and decision support development.
- Outreach, Alliances, and Sustainability: Planning upcoming outreach initiatives, discussing policy recommendations and standardization efforts, as well as continuing the discussion about exploitation roadmaps.
The General Assembly ended with a plenary wrap-up summarizing decisions, action items, and next milestones.
A sincere thank you to Legind Technologies A/S for hosting a productive, seamless, and inspiring meeting in Denmark!
