Welcoming Wil van Heeswijk to the CustomAI External Advisory Board

We are thrilled to announce that Wil van Heeswijk, a distinguished expert in European customs policy and security technology, has officially joined the CustomAI External Advisory Board (EAB).

With an illustrious career spanning four decades, Wil brings an unparalleled wealth of knowledge to the project. His extensive background includes 10 years of service as a Customs Officer with Dutch Customs, followed by 30 years with the European Commission. During his time with the Commission, he served at the Joint Research Centre in Ispra and spent 17 years within the Customs Directorate (DG TAXUD) in Brussels.

Until his retirement in December 2024, Wil led the Customs Control Equipment Instrument team. He has also chaired the Customs Detection Technology Expert Group and represented the EU in major international forums, including the World Customs Organization.

Driving Strategic Impact

Wil’s expertise spans EU law enforcement, international relations, smart borders, and supply chain security. As a policy adviser to the EU HORIZON Europe Security Research Program, his insights will be invaluable in aligning CustomAI’s innovations with the real-world operational needs of EU customs administrations.
