What is your organization’s core expertise, and what unique knowledge, technology, or capabilities do you bring to CustomAI?
Fundación Valenciaport is the applied research and innovation centre of the Port of Valencia, bringing more than two decades of experience in port operations, customs processes, logistics optimisation, and the integration of advanced technologies into real port environments. Part of our expertise lies in translating operational needs into validated pilot environments, coordinating large-scale demonstrations, and ensuring that innovative technologies can be deployed safely and realistically within a live seaport ecosystem.
For CustomAI specifically, we contribute:
- Deep operational knowledge of customs inspection processes at one of the largest ports in the Mediterranean.
- Access to real port infrastructures, including the South Access control point and the Secondary Inspection point.
- Experience integrating digital systems into port operations.
- A proven track record of hosting EU-funded technological pilots that involve complex coordination between port authorities, customs, law enforcement, and technology providers.
This combination of operational insight, facility access, and applied innovation capability makes the Port of Valencia a uniquely suitable environment for validating the CustomAI toolkit under real conditions.
What is your specific role in the project, and what is the single most exciting outcome you hope to achieve with the results of CustomAI?
Fundación Valenciaport leads Task 9.1 (Use Case Demonstrations with End Users) within WP9 (Tools Testing and Evaluations, Use Case Demonstrations, End User Training) and plays a central role in the seaport use case pilot, which takes place primarily at the Port of Valencia. Our contributions include:
- Coordinating final testing and demonstrations in the Port of Valencia pilot, including logistics, operational requirements, and data gathering.
- Supporting requirements definitions, operational validation, and feedback loops for continuous improvement, mainly across Work Packages 3, 4, 5, 9, and 10.
The most exciting outcome: To successfully demonstrate an operational, AI-enhanced multi-layer inspection system that significantly improves the accuracy and efficiency of container selection at the Port of Valencia—reducing false positives, detecting more real threats, and ultimately contributing to smarter, safer, and more efficient customs operations.
If you had to summarise your organization’s enthusiasm for this project in one sentence, what would it be?
“We are thrilled to help bring next-generation AI technologies into real port operations, demonstrating how innovation can strengthen customs efficiency, security, and competitiveness at the Port of Valencia.”
