We kick off our series of interviews to the partners forming the CustomAI consortium by sitting down with coordinating partner Legind Technologies – a company with a long track record in the field of security technologies, based in Denmark. Let’s get to know their skills, their team, and what they are working on within the project.
What is your organization’s core expertise, and what unique knowledge, technology, or capabilities do you bring to the consortium?
Legind Technologies A/S (LTA) develops advanced intelligence and security solutions, including system analysis, solution concepts, system design, software development, and implementation. Techniques include artificial intelligence, object recognition, search engines, graph databases, data analytics, data fusion and integration, risk assessment, multi-criteria decision-making under uncertainty, and software engineering.
What is your role in the project and what is the single most exciting outcome you hope to achieve with the results of CustomAI?
LTA is coordinating the project and leading the work packages on Project Management and Coordination and Design of AI-Based Decision Support Tools for Customs. LTA is further contributing to several work packages, with major contributions to Use Case Requirements and Toolkit Framework Design, Design of AI-Based Toolkit for the Identification of Goods, and Design & Development of AI-Based Decision Support Tools for Customs. The most existing expected outcome is an integral conceptual model and architecture (Agentic AI) for customs control (the so-called Virtual Customs Control Office) that is adaptable to different application frameworks (container control, parcel control, etc.).
What is the core team involved in the project?

Henrik Larsen, founder and CEO of LTA. He created LTA as a spin-off from his research as professor in computer science at Roskilde University and Aalborg University (both in Denmark), including as leader of the Computational Intelligence and Security Lab (CISLab) at the Department of Electronic Systems (at the latter university). The CustomAI team further comprises, on the research side, Prof. Ronald R. Yager (USA), and, on the production side, currently two software engineers, Katarina and Andras.
If you had to summarize your organization’s enthusiasm for CustomAI in one sentence, what would it be?
Research and development of innovative solutions for increasing the efficiency and the effectiveness of the customs control at EU’s external borders.
