On February 3–5, 2026, CustomAI partners met at the University of Granada to discuss the technical development of AI-driven customs tools. This first face-to-face meeting served as a working session to align the project’s various work packages and define the requirements for the pilot tests.
After a warm welcome from the hosts, the meeting opened with a review of the project’s use case scenarios, specifically focusing on the operational needs of seaports, postal services, and the protection of cultural goods.
Technical Coordination and Planning
The sessions on Day 2 focused on the integration of the AI-Based Toolkit for identifying goods and the development of Decision Support Tools. Project partners reviewed the roadmap for the first 18 months of the project. Key discussion points included:
- Finalizing the toolkit framework and integration requirements.
- Refining the design and development of AI tools for customs decision-making.
- Administrative Management, including the review of GDPR compliance, sustainability planning, and project coordination protocols.
Specialized Workshops
On the final day, the consortium held three parallel workshops to address specific technical challenges:
| Group | Focus Area | Key Objectives |
| Group 1 | User Interface & Pilots | Refining UI design and sketching out pilot environment setups. |
| Group 2 | AI-Vision Analysis | Developing image databases for X-ray and camera-based threat detection. |
| Group 3 | Vapor Technology | Addressing non-intrusive contraband detection using vapor-based sensors. |
The meeting concluded with a plenary session where each group presented their decisions and next steps.
The General Assembly in Granada not only advanced the project’s technical agenda but also reinforced the strong team spirit that drives the project forward—underscoring the value of open dialogue, collaboration, and collective ambition.
A warm thank you goes to our hosts at the University of Granada for welcoming the CustomAI consortium and making this meeting possible!
